I shared this on Sunday briefly but I have been stuck on the scripture in Genesis 1:2 where it talks about the Spirit hovering over the deep.

‘The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:2

I find this very intriguing. So, God has created the heavens and the earth. So, at this point, there was Darkness and Water. There was no land, no vegetation, no people, no animals, etc. Just darkness and water. Now, it says that the Spirit was hovering over the deep. Now, this is where perception plays into it.

What do you think of when I write “Darkness and Water”? When you hear the word darkness you think the enemy. Void. Lack of light. Satan’s army. Right? When you picture the earth without ANYTHING but the deep underneath the water and darkness it seems kind of ominous. But, this was not the case in Genesis. The darkness and the water were a blank canvas for God to BREATHE on. I find Genesis to be a very poetic romance. This word Ruwach is a Hebrew word that means “Breath” or “Wind”. It is speaking of God’s Spirit. So, God’s breathe was hovering over the deep. Almost like He was taking a DEEP breath before creating.

Before writing a song I will often spend some time praying or maybe even researching information. When writing Elohim I wrote a couple blogs and studied the information. I was completely attracted to this name Elohim and wanted to create something that expressed the Glory of Elohim. But, there is a moment where I take a deep breath before creating. I think this is a vital moment. But, it’s an exciting moment. I believe this is what God was doing. Taking a deep breath before He started with the brush stroke. Before breathing His breathe and creating all He created.

This blog goes very much along with the heart of what Canvas Church means. Allowing your life to be a blank Canvas for God to paint HIS picture. not YOUR picture. HIS picture. Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them”

God is still breathing. He is still creating. In the midst of all this chaos, I truly believe God is searching for as many blank canvas’ to breathe into as He can. God’s Ruwach is still hovering. Speaking. Healing. Working wonders. The question is, are you awake? Do you see the DARKNESS? Or do you see the Spirit of God standing there with a paintbrush ready to get to work in you? Where one sees hopelessness another sees opportunity. Right now things are dark. But, the light shines brighter in the darkness. So, are you allowing God’s Rowach to continue to breathe in You? Or are you full of fear and dread?

My challenge to you is simple.

Ask God to breathe into every corner of your heart and soul. Then, in that ask God to open your eyes for the opportunity to breathe into others. God will create in you. And through that you can breathe into the lives around you. That’s the very RUWACH of God. But, we HAVE to be fully surrendered to Him. Remember, it’s HIS painting, not ours. So I challenge you to surrender to God’s Ruwach. Let Him breathe life into the dry bones. Let Him create in You newness. Wholeness. Understanding. FAITH. Let Him lead. Even if it means stepping out into the darkness and deep waters. With His breath in your lungs. NOTHING can stop you and the Kingdom of God.
