A miniature puddle of black shimmer caught my eye as I walked to the road waving goodbye to my in-laws. I felt compelled to investigate further. This was the beginning of a little “God nod” in my direction.

Earlier that day, only a few feet away, we had poured out boiling water over a massive ant colony that had set up shop around the lid of our water main door. Annoyed by the inconvenience it created for us, we were determined to rid ourselves of the pests.

I crouched down over the mysterious area to discover something I had never seen before in my entire life.  The ants had created a mass grave for the ones who didn’t make it through the “Burning Flood of 2020”.  The survivors were legitimately carrying their dead out of the destruction and dragging them at least two to three feet away before depositing their corpses and going back to recover more. Ya’ll, I was awestruck.  I couldn’t put words to my thoughts, but I can tell you that it was probably tops of the coolest and oddest things I’ve seen lately.

I flagged down my in-laws and made them come look at it before they pulled out of the driveway.  The first thing my mother-in-law said was, “That’s scripture Callie Ann. Go look up the ants in Proverbs.” I must be honest; I didn’t do it immediately.  I was still excited about the new knowledge I had been fortunate to see with my own eyes, but I didn’t dig into my Word with it.

Fast forward three days to this past Tuesday morning, I was collecting all of Corey’s homeschool work for the week.  I mindlessly ripped pages out of his workbooks and placed them into the days of the weeks folders that he would come to grab from each day.  I went to put his Science work pages into the Tuesday folder and, lo and behold, the insect unit with…wait for it…a scripture he had to trace dotted at the bottom of the page.  Anyone want to guess what that scripture was? Lord have mercy, if I wasn’t staring at the Proverb about the ant!!!! Those chills started and I smiled the biggest smile, while crooking my head sideways saying out loud, “Okay Papa, I’m listening. Tell me more.”

Proverbs 6:6, “Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in the summer and gathers her food in harvest. How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?”

Two words.

The Kingdom is here. NOW! Quit sleeping through this Life in mindless routine.  Though it is wise to be prudent and hardworking, please, please, PLEASE don’t miss Him in the midst.  Look for Him and signs of His promises every day in every way. He’s there.  Look for ways to cultivate intentionality in your walk with Him.

Thank you for helping me get my Wonder back Papa!

Thank you for knowing just what I need even when I don’t have a clue!

Thank you for the ants!

~ Callie
