Don’t Need A Cheerleader

Life is hard.  We all have struggles.  We are all in different walks of life, both physically and spiritually. We were meant to live in community.  Even God himself lives in community as the trinity. The plural form of God, Elohim, is used when referring to creation because Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were all present.  We were created in His image, so it only makes sense that we need community.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says:  Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? 12 And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

There is NO reason to go it alone!

I was recently reading Do Over by Jon Acuff, and something he wrote stuck with me.  “An accountability partner you only contact when you are winning, isn’t an accountability partner, it’s a cheerleader.”

Think about it.  Would you only go to the doctor when you are doing well, but not when you feel like death warmed over?  Would you only go to the dentist when everything is fine, but not when your tooth is throbbing?  My accountability partner is there with me in good and bad.  Boy, do I hate having to talk about my struggles, but having her to help carry the burden is a relief

We all fall short, for most of us that’s daily.  Having a community, a body of like-minded believers to lift you up and walk alongside you, will give you hope!

I have had several friends recently post on social media that they feel alone.  It is a lie from the enemy folks.  He wants us to feel isolated because he can’t handle us when we hold each other up in Christ.

1 Peter 5:8 says: Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Lions in the wild will isolate and pick off the weak of the herd.  If we stand together, and support the weak, he can’t pick us off!

I encourage you, if you don’t have someone to talk to and hold you accountable, reach out.  There are plenty of folks at Canvas that would love to help on your journey.  Join a Canvas group, sign up for a Canvas team, get involved.  There is NO reason to go through life alone!

Your friendly neighborhood heinie kicker,
