Positive Thinking

smileTrue Story.  I got up one morning and dressed in a hurry. Busy day and already felt behind. Took the kids to school and walked Hannah in.  Some of the parents looked at me and smiled and some giggled. I then went to the post office.  Upon crossing the highway a truck driver looked out his window and smiled ear to ear and tooted his horn. I walked from the post office down to the utility company and people were literally stopping and smiling at me. I thought, Wow what a wonderful day. God, you have everyone in such a joyful mood.  I got back in my car with stress gone and joy overcoming my thoughts. I sang and clapped and felt like the world was happy. Until…..I passed by a mirror at Wal-Mart and found I had a pair of panty hose dragging behind me from my pants leg. I was in such a rush to get ready that I put on the pants I had worn the night before. The panty hose was stuck up inside the leg and I didn’t know it.

My thoughts went from stressed to joyful to embarrassed. But, it also taught me that I can control my thoughts. What if I smiled at people and nodded my head?  Would it help someone? In my distress I can still have a positive attitude. It all has to do with controlling what’s on my mind and where I choose to allow it to stay.
What’s On Your Mind, Whatever it is, God knows It?

(Psalms 139:2)  You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.

God has blessed each of us with a mind. There is no one created by God who can deny the fact that they have been created to think.

What’s on your mind today? What are you thinking about on this blessed day that God has given you yet another opportunity to praise God’s holy and righteous name?

Rather than viewing the fact that God knows all of our thoughts in a negative manner, each of us should be pleased to know that we serve a God fully aware of our situations. He knows what’s on our minds and what we are concerned about.  He also knows if we truly trust Him and keep our thoughts in line.

Do you not know that whatever problem you may have today, most can be remedied with a thought of positive perspective?

We have something in our corner that we must start making use of if we have not begun to do so. We definitely serve a God interested in our well-being. We serve a God more than willing to supply us with whatever needs we have in this life.

What’s on your mind today? What are you thinking about at this very moment? I ask that question because your response will definitely determine where your heart is.

Consider for a few moments some common clichés that we have privy to. Have you ever heard, ‘My mind is playing tricks on me?’  No matter the situation in front of you, the way you perceive it can change your whole way your mind interrupts.

Someone may be saying, “I don’t see how our minds have anything to do with what receive or do not receive from God.” I beg to differ. On countless occasions in scripture you recall that much of what occurred in the lives of God’s people occurred as
a result of an inspired thought. If it was a positive thought, you can rest assure that it came from God. That’s why the Psalmist utters in Psalm 139:23,24 “Search me O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts, See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

What comes to us in our minds is critical. It is this information or data that propels us into action. I pray that we’re using our minds to maximize our relationship with God, and one another. I also pray that we are using our minds to allow creative thinking to move us into the direction that God would have each of us to go in.

What’s on your mind today? Is it positive or negative? Is it uplifting? The good part about all of this is this, if we are not positive with our thoughts, this can be changed. If we are not uplifted from a positive standpoint, this too can be different.

Having said that, let’s now begin utilizing our minds in a more proactive manner. Just as we nourish our bodies daily with food for our physical bodies, let’s begin nourishing our minds. If you have negative thoughts, please know that God can assist
to remove those thoughts and replace them with positive thoughts.

If you have doubts today, please know that the God of creation can ease all doubt. If you have need today, focus on the God of creation’s plan for humanity and hopefully that will help encourage you to see beyond your present circumstance.

Because God knows all of our thoughts, God can assist us with each of them. Whatever is on your mind today, please know that God is aware and able to assist us with it if we sincerely open ourselves up to the presence of God through the Holy Spirit, through God’s written word and through circumstances that we encounter on a day-to-day basis.

  1. Needed this reminder today, Lisa. I’ve had a rough couple of weeks…pretty sure the enemy’s sending lots of bad juju my way, trying to make me lose my mind. So positive thinking has not been easy during this time. Thanks for the post! 🙂

  2. Thank you so much for this thoughtful post and amusing anecdote. It is critical to reframe negative thinking patterns so that we don’t get bogged down and miss opportunities for service and passing on God’s love. I often pray for God to help me see things through His eyes instead of my own, especially other people. BTW, you have such a wonderful store of amusing, if embarrassing stories ! 😀 ❤
