Lost Coins

Oftentimes, the coins left over from purchases are essentially discarded to the black hole abyss of a purse or pockets. We see them less and less now that most of the time, “debit” or “credit” cards are used. Sometimes feeling lost, just like coins in dark forgotten recesses, we wonder what value we have when so many others look so bright and colorful, new and different, and more “out there” for everyone to see and appreciate.
God’s plan has little to do with “self-esteem”. His plan only requires: belief in Him, His love for us, His ability, and obedience to what He has called us to do in His Word. No matter what we feel, think, look like, our current level of ability…we are CALLED according to His purpose {Romans 8:28}. He will even supply the wherewithal to obey.
“For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work
for His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13 NASB
In Psalm 139, Father God tells us how each detail of our lives and being were thought out before the world even began, and that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Even though the work we are doing may seem small and insignificant, we are part of the body that cooperates together to make an entire being that serves the purposes of the entirety Father God envisions. NO ONE is unimportant in this process.
I am reminded of a scripture song we sang in a church I attended long ago taken from II Corinthians 4:7. Here are the lyrics:
Earthen Vessels
We hold a treasure not made of gold
in earthen vessels wealth untold
one treasure only
the Lord the Christ
in earthen vessels
Light has shone in our darkness
God has shone in our hearts
with the light of the glory
of Jesus the Lord
God has chosen the lowly
who are small in this world
in this weakness is glory
in Jesus the Lord
God reminded me that His pursuit of each of us is like the parable of the woman searching for the lost coin in her home, sweeping every corner until she finds it. He doesn’t care what we seem to be in this world, because all of us come up short in many ways, in every paradigm imaginable. He finds us to be that pearl of great price. That is why He gave Paul the words to encourage us:
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves…” II Corinthians 4:7
None of us ever need to feel like those forgotten coins in a pocket or purse. Each of us is a matchless masterpiece of the Father, created for His unique purpose in our lives. You can live out the “pure and undefiled religion” of James 1:27, dancing to the irreplaceable, one of a kind music Yahweh wrote especially for you, even if no one else hears the same tune. You are precious in His sight and fit for His use because He declared you to be so.
