Have you ever watch auction or appraisal shows like The Antiques Roadshow, or more currently Auction Hunters or American Pickers? I used to watch Antiques Roadshow with my mom and stepdad when I was younger. A person would bring in an item for appraisal and the appraiser would say it’s worth $3000.00. My mom or step dad would always chime in and say, “Maybe, but it’s really only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.” It’s true. If I have a $3,000.00 painting, but no one will pay over $500.00 for it…that’s essentially what it is worth.
So friends, what does that say about us? John 3:16 maybe be over quoted, but it applies. Here is what John 3:16-18 says in The Message version:
“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.”
Remember your worth. God values you enough that He was willing to pay the highest price you could ask of anyone, His only son. How are you honoring Him?
