Heart Strings

Many of you knew our Grandma Joanne… and in fact… some of you even adopted her as your own. For that reason, I wanted to share a special part of her memorial with you.

Her wish was to be cremated, and her ashes spread over the Ocean. Our Grandma loved to visit the Oregon Coast, particularly the little town of Depoe Bay. So it was no surprise when she chose that area for her ashes. The Weather along Oregon Coast is typically overcast, cold, windy and rainy. As you can imagine, this is challenging for small aircraft pilots. It was no different the morning of Grandma’s Memorial… and we were worried the weather would not cooperate with her final wish. Mark Henshell; the Pilot, is a dear friend to Grandma. He agreed that if the weather was bad… he would fulfill her wish on another day.

The only problem with that, is many family members would probably not be able to come back to see the fly over.  The weather in Depoe Bay was really poor when Mark took off from Salem, only a 25 minute flight away. We were growing concerned that he may end up having to turn back. 20 minutes later… the winds start to calm… and the rain fades. Just then… a small aircraft appears in the distance… dips his wing to say hello… and fulfills our Grandmothers final wish.

Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

We Love You Grandma JoAnne…

  1. Oh how this touched my heart and made me cry for the love that was so obvious in this woman’s life. Since I did not have the opportunity to get to know her in this life, I look forward to getting to know her in the next one. BTW, the family resemblance between Grandma Joanne and Angela is clear. How wonderful a thing to focus on that she is in communion with the rest of the saints right this moment in Jesus’ wonderful presence, and that we shall all praise Him with her one day!
